Key Points: Magnetism and Matter Notes PDF
Magnet: A magnet is a rock or a piece of metal that can pull certain types of metal toward itself.
Basic properties of Magnet:
- Attractive property – Magnet attracts ferro-magnetic materials like iron, cobalt and nickel.
- Repulsive properties – Like magnetic poles repel each other and unlike magnetic poles attract each other.
- Directive property – A freely suspended magnet always point in a north-south direction.
Magnetic Dipole: An arrangement of two equal and opposite magnetic poles separated by a small distance is called a magnetic dipole.
Magnetic Field: An area around a magnet or materials that behave like a magnet where there is a force that will attract some metals towards it.
Gauss Law in Magnetism: The net magnetic flux () through any closed surface is always zero. This law suggests that the number of magnetic field lines leaving any closed surface is always equal to the number of magnetic field lines entering it.
Ferromagnetic Substance
- Ferromagnetic substances are strongly attracted by the field. So, in a nonuniform field, they tend to sick at the poles where the field is strongest.
- Ferromagnetic substances atoms have permanent dipole moment in domains.
- No liquid is ferromagnetic solution.
- They move from weaker to stronger magnetic field rapidly.
- The magnetic susceptibility is very large, positive.
- There permeability is much greater than 1.
Curie Temperature : The temperature at which ferromagnetic Substance convers in the paramagnetic Substance.
Curie’s Law in Magnetism : According to curie’s law, the magnetisation M developed in a paramagnetic material is directly proportional to the applied magnetic field by and inversely proportional to the absolute temperature T.
Features of Notes
- Students can use Magnetism and Matter notes for last minute revision.
- In the last few days of the exam, students feel very stressed due to the pressure of the exam. Notes will be very helpful for managing the stress in the last days of the exam.
