Key Points
Matrices A matrix is an ordered rectangular arrangement of numbers or functions.
Elements or entries of matrix – The number or functions in the matrix ex – 3, -2, -1, 1, 4, 6. (Total 6 elements).
Order of a Matrix – If a matrix has m rows and n columns then its order is written as m x n.
No of elements in a Matrix – product of rows & columns i.e mn.
Position of an elements. Ex – $(1,2)th element = 1 written as (Row, column)
Types of matrices
- Column matrix :- A matrix which has only one column.Order of column matrix is m x 1.
- Row matrix – Matrix which has only one row. Order of it is 1 x n.
- Square Matrix Matrix which has equal no of rows & columns. Its order is m x m or nx n.
Elementary operations of a Matrix
- Interchange of any two rows or two columns Ri ← Rj or Ci ← Cj
- The multiplication of elements of any row and column by a non zero number.Ri → kRi or Ci → kCi
- The addition to the elements of any row or column the corresponding elements of any other row or column multiplied by any non-zero number. Ri → Ri + kRj Ci → Ci + kCj
Inverse of a matrix
A is a square matrix of order m x n and if there exists another square matrix B of same order, Such that AB=BA=I then B=A-1 and A=B-1

What is Invertible Matrices (Inverse)?
If A is a square matrix of Order m, and there exists another matrix B such that AB=BA=I, then B is the inverse of A.
What is Transpose of a Matrix?
The matrix obtained by interchanging the rows and columns of A.
What is Order of a Matrix?
If a matrix has m rows and n columns then its order is written as m x n.
