OR

(b) An electric heater is rated 220 V ; 11 A . Calculate the power consumed if the heater is operated at 200 V.

Solution :-

a)r=0.01 cm=1 x 10−4 ml=1 cm=0.01 ma) \quad \text{r} = 0.01\text{ cm} = 1\text{ x } 10^{-4}\text{ m} \quad l = 1\text{ cm} = 0.01\text{ m}
R=ρlA\text{R} = \rho\frac{l}{\text{A}}
ρ=RAl=R x πr2l\rho = \frac{\text{RA}}{l} = \frac{\text{R x }\pi\text{r}^2}{l}
ρ=7 x 22 x 10−87 x 0.01\rho = \frac{7\text{ x } 22\text{ x } 10^{-8}}{7\text{ x } 0.01}
ρ=22 x 10−8 x 102\rho = 22\text{ x } 10^{-8}\text{ x } 10^2
ρ=22 x 10−6 Ωm=2.2 x 10−5 Ωm\rho = 22\text{ x } 10^{-6}\ \Omega\text{m} = 2.2\text{ x } 10^{-5}\ \Omega\text{m}

(b) Resistance of electric heater

R=VI \text{R} = \frac{\text{V}}{\text{I}}
R=22011\text{R} = \frac{220}{11}
R=20 Ω\text{R} = 20\ \Omega
P=V2R\text{P} = \frac{\text{V}^2}{\text{R}}
P=200 x 20020\text{P} = \frac{200\text{ x } 200}{20}
P=2000W/ 2 kW\text{P} = 2000\text{W/ } 2\text{ kW}
